Photography Artists

Gregory Crewdson
The work of Gregory Crewdson is intriguing in a number of ways. Using his unique sense of lighting and eerie "scenes", Crewdson displays a creative understanding of emotion and character. Often creepy and unsettling, his photographs are seemingly unlike any other artist's work. He makes extraordinary use of cold colors and very specific lights to present a dramatic style.

Teun Hocks
Teun Hocks' work is my favorite of the three artists mentioned in this post. His dark sense of humor and knack for situational comedy shines through his work. His subtle use of warm colors and clear character allow for an easy connection between the viewer and the art.

Jeff Wall
The artwork of Jeff Wall is interesting but sometimes unremarkable. Some of his pieces, like "A Sudden Gust of Wind" are elegant and intriguing in illustrating a unique perspective of strange and irregular events.

Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman's artwork is my least favorite of these three artists. Though she presents a striking image of femininity, in my opinion her photographs lack distinct direction and symbolism. However, I do enjoy how her work resembles film stills; the viewer gets a real sense of backstory and character from them occasionally.
